Over the past 4 years, the Holy Angels Varsity volleyball team has been ranked as one of the top 20 teams in Bergen County and has been a contender in both the county and state tournaments.  As the best county in New Jersey for volleyball, this is truly an honor and accomplishment. Each year we join novice players with experienced players to create a unified and cohesive program where the focus is on communication and skill improvement. Coach Surovich and Coach Paccione’s passion for the sport radiates to their players which results is a desire to succeed, all the while enjoying the sport.

Year in Review

The 2016 Volleyball season ended with a record of 7 wins and 15 losses.  This year, the team consisted of only 4 returning players; therefore, most of the year was spent learning how to play with one another and becoming a team. We had moments of success throughout the season, but unfortunately, it wasn’t consistent which lead to several losses. However, the girls’ performances against some of the most competitive teams in the county such as Mahwah, Paramus and Pascack Hills showed that there is potential and earned them the 23rd seed in the Bergen County Tournament. Unfortunately the team fell to Ridgewood in the first round. The remainder of the regular season was filled with ups and downs as the girls continued to struggle to find a way to play together and up to the high level that is associated with Holy Angels Volleyball.

Regardless of the difficulties and inconsistencies the girls faced this season, they all say that they have developed lifelong friendships and bonds with their fellow teammates.  In our post-season discussion, the girls were able to recognize what needs to be improved in order for next season to have a better outcome.

The 2016 Varsity team graduates 2 seniors and will return 9 underclassmen next year. We are optimistic and excited looking forward to the future as our JV program had a very successful season. Holy Angels’ volleyball may have been in a rebuilding phase, but it is continuing to hold their position as a contender in the best county for girls’ volleyball.
